In Stage 6 we have healed enough to know that we need to prepare for resolution of the physical and energetic residue that is left behind from our previously defensive reactions to traumatic situations and circumstances. The rigidity of the body, the energetic controls and stock piles, the way we remember the event and our behavioural patterns of avoidance no longer serve us and need to be sorted out. The actual resolution will come in Stage 7; however, more healing is necessary to get there. At this point, the bodymind must develop the structural integrity and flexibility to support the surge of energy resulting from its re-organization, while simultaneously moving towards resolution.
Although Stages 6 and 7 kind of go hand in hand, Stage 6 is not simply a preparatory stage for Stage 7. It represents a significant shift in consciousness and awareness of what is happening in the bodymind, both physically and energetically. We are acknowledging the building of tension and energy. The feelings of pressure, nausea and a need to expel or relinquish something are seen as appropriate. We know that the dissonant rhythms and energy must be discharged and that this feeling, which earlier in our healing would have been regarded as sickness or stress, is now a welcome possibility.
As in the prior stages, there are three phases to the Stage 6 experience. These are recognition, communication and completion.
The recognition phase of Stage 6 simply involves the acknowledgement of events that seem to occur serendipitously. We just seem to be attracting whatever we need to move us in the direction of our wholeness. It’s not like these situations, opportunities and events never presented themselves to us before, but our readiness for them now makes them stand out. However our consciousness at this stage keeps us seeing these events as random. At this point we do not yet have the knowing that we are always given everything we need. While seeing and acknowledging these unexpected but welcome events are a critical part of the preparation, at this time they seem to have no relation to any bodymind rhythm.
Communication in Stage 6 happens as the feelings of build up and tension come on. The inner stability we gained through the previous stages enables us to be comfortable with the discomfort. It also allows and supports this process to continue and escalate. While we know that there are energies, memories, perspectives and tensions that are no longer necessary and must be discharged, we are only focusing on the part of the body where this surge is happening. We just touch and rub this part with the awareness that it is time for it to support something new and better. The energetic restructuring we are experiencing is similar to the feeling just prior to vomiting or expelling something from the other end.
Completion of Stage 6 can occur with a transition to total discharge in Stage 7, or the build up may simply reorganize and melt into a peaceful calm. Either is an acceptable completion. In fact the Stage 6 process can result in a resolution of the dissonant energy, tension and memories without an actual discharge. If we do progress right into Stage 7, we feel as though all the energy channels in the body feed into one greater channel, giving us the energy needed for the next stage in healing.
The Stage 6 exercise adds a higher level of focus to the energy that had been in a holding pattern due to our previously defended state. With our movement, energy and breath, we stir up the energy in preparation for resolution and in anticipation of our bodymind’s readiness to become the person we must be.
