Making Your Dreams a Reality

For the first few weeks of 2010 we have been asking our practice members to share their dreams for this year with us.  We know that the New Years resolution thing is a bit stale so we thought we'd encourage you to dream a little. We asked you to think of three things that you would like to see in your life this year.

So what is it that you would like in your life that you do not have now?  Maybe you want to improve your financial situation in order to have the funds to do or get certain things.  Perhaps it's that you would like more fun and recreation in your life.  It could be about making your relationship stronger or more loving.  Or maybe this is the year you are going to get into really great shape!  Who knows?  You might have it all and just want to add more depth by developing your spiritual side.

So just decide!  Pick a few to work with and let's get started!

Now, if you want something in your life that you do not already have, it means that you will need to do different things than you currently do.  You will have to develop new habits and take actions that you are not accustomed to taking.  You will need to think different thoughts, and this means you will have different feelings.  In essence, you will need to become a new person!

Who is the person that you need to become?  Who is this person that has what you want?  For example, if you want to get in great shape, what kind of person is in really great shape?  Would you need to become an athlete?  Or, at least, a highly physically, health-conscious individual?  So decide on the person you need to become.

Next, examine what characteristics or attributes that person has that allow him or her to have that which you want.  In the example of the athlete, maybe he has determination, discipline, and dedication.  What are the attributes of the person that you want to become?  If you had to give yourself a rating from one to ten on how much of that attribute you have, what would you score?

Now you know what you need to develop in order to create that which you want in your life!

So your goal becomes to develop that attribute.  What are the resources you have at your disposal to do this?  Is there actually a person you know who could show you? Do you need to get a book or take a course?  Sometimes a little research on the internet is all that is needed.

Now decide on a reasonable amount of time to spend developing this attribute each week or month.  Ask yourself if this goal is reasonable in order to develop the attribute you need to accomplish your dream.  If, for example, you are just starting out in your quest to get in great shape, and you have never done anything physical in your life, very gentle movement exercise a few times a week may be appropriate to start. However, if that is all you do for a year, do you think you will accomplish your goal? No!  You will have to pick up the intensity.

Finally, compete against yourself.  You don't want to compare your first performance in the gym to a professional bodybuilder if you have never worked out!  All you have to do is consistently make sure that you are continually outdoing yourself.  And celebrate! You are on the road to making your dreams a reality!

We have worksheets in the office and our practice members are helping us create a book of people's dreams for 2010.  Make sure yours get in the book and join the group of people who will be realizing their dreams this year.  In the next advanced workshop in February, Dr. Amanda will be walking people through this process.  Be sure to mark it on your calendar and bring a guest.

This is the only way to turn lofty goals into something concrete.  The actions you take are critical.  It has taken me a lot of time energy and investment to learn this secret. Make sure you use it.  It can bring the things you want into your life.
